Concerns Rise Over Rahul Gandhi's Leadership Amid BJP Criticism
BJP has zeroed in on perceived cracks in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's grip on his party. They cite Congress MP Shashi Tharoor's praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as reason to question Gandhi’s authority.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla pointed out Tharoor’s remarks about Modi, especially his handling of issues affecting Indian seafarers, as damaging for Gandhi, particularly given the timing after Gandhi’s birthday. Poonawalla said,"It is awkward. Just yesterday was Rahul Gandhi’s birthday, yet he received no recognition," capturing the irony.
Poonawalla stressed Tharoor's praise for Modi, saying it shows Prime Minister's strong leadership. He quoted Tharoor’s admiration, noting,“Tharoor has been openly praising Prime Minister Modi’s vision, eloquence, and public speaking skills, mentioning Modi's significant impact on many Indians' lives.”
BJP spokesperson questioned Gandhi's viability as a prime ministerial candidate, implying even Congress doubts him. “Congress party says ‘Cool PM Rahul’ is ready to lead nation, yet confidence seems scarce among his peers,” Poonawalla commented.
Poonawalla also said Gandhi's support is fading, citing distance from former allies like Ramachandra Guha and Tharoor. “A troubling trend for Rahul Gandhi, especially given his electoral losses. He has pushed away those once his supporters,” he noted.
He added that Gandhi’s leadership faces scrutiny from coalition partners like Left and DMK. “Right now,he lacks allies' backing. The Left and DMK aren't recognizing his leadership, leaving Rahul Gandhi more figurehead than leader,” Poonawalla concluded.
