Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled plan to plant one million palmyra saplings in Andhra Pradesh. Aim: enhance palm-based livelihoods,support state's toddy tappers. State president P.V.N. Madhav announced it at roundtable in party's state office,during World Environment Day.
Madhav emphasized need to improve socio-economic conditions of those dependent on palmyra cultivation. Especially Gouda,Setti Balija,Srisaina, Yadiga communities. Highlighted cultural,environmental value of palmyra trees in India. Conservation matters too.
Despite welfare schemes from Central,State governments for marginalized groups,Madhav said more needed to secure toddy tappers' livelihoods. Proposed setting up Neera production centers. Could create jobs,promote healthy drinks.
