Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney rolled out a new AI strategy Thursday, pushing Canada to build up its own capabilities amid foreign threats . He warned that slow adoption of AI tech could let it be "weaponised against us."
Canada lags behind other G7 countries in scaling AI,Carney said . He emphasized cutting reliance on foreign suppliers, especially U.S., making it a central agenda item. “We are highly dependent on foreign suppliers for the infrastructure that powers AI,” he said, noting risks if foreign entities access Canadian data or deploy AI products not aligned with Canadian values.

Carney's comments underscore concerns over U.S. tech giants' sway in AI and need for Canada to nurture its own tech scene to protect its interests...
