Senior official from Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India (RG&CCI) defended ongoing Census,saying fixing discrepancies is standard. Swadha Dev Singh,RG&CCI Director,said Friday House Listing Operation continues in Rajasthan with enumerators visiting homes to gather data . Supervisors regularly check work for accuracy.
In email reply to concerns about possible data tampering,Singh clarified any discrepancies found are corrected with enumerators. She called this normal in statistical exercises,stating,“Attempts to misrepresent this as data tampering are regrettable and factually inaccurate.”
Enumerators in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan told to revisit homes to amend data,especially on open defecation and cooking gas access. Census using digital tools for first time,with enumerators,mainly government school teachers,entering data. Supervisors monitor work in real time.
Concerns arose after CG Box,digital media platform from Raipur,reported teachers in Chhattisgarh asked to change entries on open defecation and LPG connections after surveys. Devesh Tiwari of CG Box said many teachers complained about being told to edit themselves,even though supervisors could do it.
So far,around 82 lakh households opted for self-enumeration as Census moves through five states . RG&CCI stresses accuracy in this large-scale statistical effort,saying adjustments are routine,necessary. But how will this digital shift impact future counts…
