Costa Rican scientists might have found a new ghost shark species in Pacific waters near Cabo Blanco and Cano Island . This is first ghost shark recorded along Central America's coast,says Arturo Angulo Sibaja,biology professor at University of Costa Rica.
This species stands out with its shorter snout,darker color,and longer dorsal spine. Sets it apart from others. Genetic tests show it has “no reproductive contact” with other ghost sharks. A unique lineage.
But Sibaja pointed out that samples from waters near Peru and Chile look similar to this new find . Comparisons are ongoing to confirm this. Three ghost shark species known globally — off South Africa,Taiwan,Australia,Japan,and in the Atlantic from Greenland to Brazil . What else lurks undiscovered in these depths…
