During landing at Midway International in Chicago,a Delta Air Lines plane had an unusual run-in with fireworks. Saturday night, flight 1076 from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Airport was involved.
When plane was about 200 feet above airport, it collided with firework. Pilot quickly told air traffic control,describing a loud explosion. But flight landed safely at 8:33 PM CDT,no injuries reported .
Fireworks were part of 250th anniversary celebrations for U.S., with public and private shows all over. Before descent,controllers warned crew about fireworks from nearby homes. "Delta 1076… use caution,there are multiple homes near the approach end shooting off fireworks," one said.
After incident, Chicago Police said aircraft hit by "unknown object," causing minor damage. Happened just before landing around 8:30 PM CDT.
Delta spokesperson confirmed Airbus A319 had no serious damage after inspection. Event reported to aviation authorities for more investigation.

Inquiries continue… city officials are checking on fireworks rules near airport. What happens to those behind private fireworks remains unclear.
