In wake of devastating weather events,northern China has reported five fatalities linked to severe rainfall and a tropical storm, according to state media updates released on Sunday. These tragic incidents unfolded over the weekend,highlighting dangers posed by extreme weather.
On Saturday,torrential rains triggered a flash flood in Inner Mongolia,claiming the lives of two villagers . One victim drowned while attempting to manage a herd of cattle, while the other fell into water during the same ordeal. In a neighboring region of Liaoning, three additional deaths were recorded,though specific details regarding those individuals have yet to emerge.
Liaoning province experienced significant disruptions due to persistent rainfall that began early Saturday, with some reports indicating accumulations of up to 13 inches . This deluge resulted in extensive flooding,transforming local streets into rivers,prompting emergency personnel to relocate around 3,600 residents to safer locations .
Meanwhile,Tropical Storm Maysak advanced from Vietnam into China’s Guangxi region on Sunday,bringing maximum winds of 63 miles per hour. Although it weakened as it traveled inland, storm still inflicted considerable flooding, especially in Fangchenggang city,where footage from state broadcaster CCTV captured vehicles nearly engulfed by rising waters.
Residents expressed that this flooding has been among the worst they’ve experienced in two decades. In Vietnam,the storm caused widespread destruction,uprooting trees and damaging roofs in Mong Cai. Rapid response teams commenced cleanup operations, utilizing various tools to remove debris and restore access to obstructed roadways .
Prior to its impact on Vietnam,Maysak had already brought heavy rainfall to Hainan Island, demonstrating the extensive reach of the storm across the region.
