Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) issued directive advising maritime recruitment agencies against sending Indian seafarers to conflict zones . Precaution comes after recent U.S. strike on MT Settebello that killed three Indians. Advisory stresses crew changes in emergencies need crew's consent.
With tensions rising in Gulf, especially near Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman,DGS noted several security incidents involving Indian-crewed merchant vessels . Incidents with MT Marivex, MT Settebello, and MV Jalveer highlight risks for commercial shipping there.
DGS urged vessel Masters in Gulf to stay alert. They must monitor navigational warnings from security agencies,implement all necessary security measures aboard . Advisory shows growing concern over Indian seafarers' safety.
“This Directorate further reiterates that all Recruitment and Placement Service License (RPSL) companies and shipping companies are advised to restrict deployment or send Indian seafarers to conflict areas until further orders,”the advisory stated.
DGS is working with Ministry of Ports,Shipping and Waterways,Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Navy,and Indian diplomatic missions . Goal: ensure seafarers' safety amid tensions.
