West Bengal's political scene is shaking up as Chandrima Bhattacharya, state president of Trinamool Congress, quit all party roles Saturday. Her exit triggered sharp words from Dilip Ghosh,a state minister, who says it signals troubling resignation wave in ruling party.
Ghosh commented that the party's internal chaos questions its organizational strength. He compared it to a past fad of returning awards, suggesting resignations are now trendy in Trinamool Congress. “The party no longer seems to have proper organisation,so it's hard to know who's resigning and where they’re headed,” he said, stressing it's an internal mess for the party to sort out .
Bhattacharya's move hits Trinamool hard, especially as they prep for 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. She had just taken over as state president after party's last election defeat, replacing Subrata Bakshi in a reshuffle led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This shake-up happened June 3,2025,after losing to BJP.
In her resignation letter,Bhattacharya declared her intent to step down from the position, which she took during a meeting at Kalighat. She wrote,“I hereby tender my resignation from the post of State President of All India Trinamool Congress, which was conferred on me in the meeting at Kalighat on 03.06.2025. I also hereby resign from all other posts which I hold at present.” Her departure has renewed scrutiny of party's internal workings and leadership.
Ghosh didn't hold back in criticizing Bhattacharya's time as Finance Minister . He questioned her knowledge of budget-making after she claimed ignorance about the process . “Chandrima Bhattacharya served as Finance Minister for so many years, yet she now claims she did not know how the Budget was prepared. Why was she sitting there then?” he asked, referring to Banerjee's comments about preparing the budget while on treadmill. Ghosh called it “sheer absurdity,” linking it to state's financial woes.
Corruption allegations under Trinamool's rule have surfaced,Ghosh urging anyone with evidence to step forward. “The corruption that has taken place in West Bengal during the Trinamool’s rule is being investigated. Anyone who has evidence should file a complaint with the police. No one found guilty will be spared,” he asserted.
As Trinamool Congress struggles with these issues, opposition leaders have ramped up their attacks, questioning party's ability to stay united and effective ahead of elections. Political landscape in West Bengal remains tense as fallout from Bhattacharya's resignation unfolds…
