Tensions simmer in the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) over recent staff appointments by its Ministers in the UDF government. Discontent erupted at Muslim Students Federation (MSF) meeting in Malappuram. There, members blasted Ministers P.K. Kunhalikutty,K.M. Shaji, N. Samsudheen,P.K. Basheer, and V.E. Abdul Gafoor for their choices.
The MSF accused these Ministers of ignoring loyal party workers who stood by IUML during the Left Democratic Front's decade in power. Many faced personal trials, police actions, criminal charges while backing party. The resolution also claimed some new staff lack political ties or proven IUML dedication .
Social media channels buzz with this anger. A photo of MSF State vice president Firos Pallath in a food delivery uniform went viral . It struck chord, symbolizing grassroots workers' frustrations. Sudheer Parakullam, leader of IUML unit White Guard in Iravipuram, shared the image, stressing Pallath's ten years of party service despite police brutality and criminal cases during protests against Pinarayi Vijayan's government.
MSF State treasurer Ashar Perumukku echoed criticism, insisting grassroots efforts deserve acknowledgment . He warned that external criteria for recognition breed disappointment among committed members. Aslam Salam,MSF Kollam district treasurer, also shared Pallath's photo, fueling backlash against IUML leadership.
Online, party workers question IUML leaders' decisions and Ministers' motives . Some suggest Pallath's exclusion stems from his southern Kerala roots. A committee led by State general secretary P.M.A. Salam and ex-Wakf Board chairman Syed Rasheedali Shihab Thangal was meant to ensure transparent appointments. Critics say it was sidelined .
IUML district general secretary P. Abdul Hameed defended the choices, citing more applicants than positions. He stressed selections were based on capability, with many Ministers needing experienced staff. Ongoing unrest within IUML raises questions about future dynamics and ties with grassroots workers…
