Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has filed legal action, seeking court injunction against members of ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). This follows DMK's concerns over remarks by officials deemed inappropriate during ongoing inquiry into a tragic TVK event with many casualties. Petition lodged July 3,2026, by R.S. Bharathi,DMK’s Organising Secretary.
Filing targets comments by Minister Adhav Arjuna on July 2,allegedly shifting blame to past leadership under M.K. Stalin. DMK argues such claims could damage credibility of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe ordered by court. Arjuna pointed fingers at former administration, alleging police actions harmed rally attendees.
Arjuna, both minister and suspect in stampede probe, made public comments DMK sees as conflict of interest. Bharathi's petition urges CBI to act against Arjuna for possibly influencing key inquiry figures, hindering progress.
Complicating matters,Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay plans early July visit to Karur to meet victims’ families, offer government aid, including compensation. State announced ₹10 lakh payout per affected family post-disaster .
Bharathi admits need to support grieving families but worries about direct engagement between politicians and key witnesses during active investigation. He warns such contact risks perception of bias, could undermine probe's neutrality.
“Direct contact with key witnesses by current administration could raise concerns about fairness, objectivity of investigative process,” Bharathi said.
DMK's motion points out Chief Minister Vijay's past financial aid to victims' families before taking office, raising ethical questions about these actions amid ongoing criminal probes.
Petition demands court order to halt benefits conveyance during CBI inquiry, insisting all aid be transparent, under oversight to maintain investigation's integrity…
