The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has initiated the process of crediting an 8.25% interest rate for the financial year 2025–26 . Subscribers who have not yet received an SMS notification can verify their updated account balances through several official channels. Although many members are starting to receive confirmation messages, the crediting of interest occurs in phases, which may delay the reflection of updated balances across all accounts.
To check if interest has been credited, members can utilize three main methods. First, they can log into EPFO portal at unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in using their Universal Account Number (UAN) and password. By accessing 'Member Passbook' section, users can view their opening and closing balances, contributions, transfers, and accrued interest.
Another option is to use the missed call service. Subscribers registered on the UAN portal can obtain their balance details by calling 011-22901406 from their registered mobile number. This service is free but requires that the UAN be linked with Aadhaar, PAN, and active banking details. Finally, members can send SMS to 7738299899 from their registered mobile number to receive the latest contribution and balance information . The SMS format should be EPFOHO UAN ENG, replacing 'ENG' with the first three letters of the preferred language, such as 'MAR' for Marathi.
The EPFO calculates interest on monthly running balance, ensuring that every contribution earns the full declared rate. Interest is compounded annually and computed monthly under Paragraph 60 of the EPF Scheme of 1952. This means that even if there are delays in the crediting process, members do not lose any financial value, as all contributions will still earn interest at declared rate.
As crediting process unfolds, members are encouraged to check their balances using these methods to stay informed about their EPF accounts. The phased approach to crediting interest is designed to manage the distribution effectively, ensuring that all subscribers eventually receive the full benefits of their contributions.
