Europe's daily liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports just hit lowest point in more than 18 months, averaging 275 million cubic meters daily by June 21, 2026. All this while temperatures soar and need to refill gas storage grows urgent .
Since June began, LNG flows from terminals into EU transmission have dropped 20% from last year. Heatwave has pushed up electricity demand for cooling. But gas still crucial.
Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) reports underground gas storage (UGS) is 46.72% full, 14.46 points below five-year average for this time . A year ago, it was 55.8%. Now,they hold about 51 billion cubic meters, with injections since early June down 17% year-on-year.
Competition for LNG fierce, driven by Middle East conflicts. Prices climbing . Gazprom warns Europe's reserves might not reach 70% capacity before next heating season. EU rules say storage must be 90% full between October 1 and December 1,allowing 10% flexibility under tough refill conditions.
To hit required target for 2026-2027 fall-winter, net injections must reach 68 billion cubic meters. Last year,Europe managed only around 55 billion. Raises concerns about energy security as winter looms…
