Fugitive linked to massive Medicare fraud caught in Philippines,now back in U.S. Herbert Leon Kimble,60, accused of scamming Medicare out of over $1.2 billion,mostly targeting elderly folks. His arrest marks second capture from FBI's new “Most Wanted Fraudsters” list,aimed at nabbing big-time fraudsters .
Kimble dodged authorities nearly two years after skipping sentencing in August 2024. Pleaded guilty in 2019 to multiple charges,including conspiracy to defraud U.S. and healthcare fraud. Prosecutors say his operation used call centers to push unnecessary orthopedic braces,bleeding Medicare dry.
FBI's Most Wanted Fraudsters list launched just weeks before Kimble's arrest. List aims to spotlight those charged with major fraud . Said Abdullahi Ereg,47, first capture from list,faces charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud,and money laundering.
“In just over two weeks,this is second Most Wanted Fraudster arrested on FBI’s list led by Vice President Vance and White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud,”said Kash Patel,FBI Director, on social media. Stressed operation's importance in battling Medicare fraud,especially for elderly.
Patel noted Kimble dodged authorities since 2024,allegedly running scheme from 2014 to 2019. “Herbert Leon Kimble was apprehended in Philippines and is now back in the United States,” he said. FBI's actions follow Trump administration's push to crack down on fraud,protect taxpayer money.
JD Vance, Vice President,thanked Philippine government for help in finding Kimble after Most Wanted list went public. Vance stated,“Our message is simple: If you defraud the American people, we will find you and we will bring you to justice.” Highlighted huge financial hit from Kimble's actions, costing taxpayers over $1 billion.
After Kimble's arrest, Todd Blanche,Acting Attorney General, said fleeing means nothing. “Instead of facing accountability for his $1.2 billion Medicare fraud crimes in United States, Kimble fled to the Philippines hoping to escape justice,” Blanche posted on social media. He noted that current administration has nabbed two from Most Wanted list quickly, more arrests expected.
