Tragedy unfolded in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district when four passengers,including a child, died jumping from train amid false fire rumor. Around 4:15 p.m. Sunday,a passenger in the general coach of Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity Express pulled alarm chain . Train stopped between Hetampur and Dholpur in Jhansi railway division.
Victims: Virma Devi, 60,from Bikaner, Rajasthan; Shakuntala Devi,60; Afreen,35; and her four-year-old son,Asad Khan, all from Agra,Uttar Pradesh. After train halted,passengers moved onto adjacent tracks. They were hit by Firozpur-Seoni Patalkot Express.
Railway officials said emergency teams,including Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local authorities,arrived quickly to assist. An investigation underway to find out why alarm chain was pulled and what led to passengers' actions.
Manoj Kumar Singh,Public Relations Officer for Jhansi division,warned against leaving trains. “Tragic incident happened after train was stopped by alarm chain; people got off and stood on tracks at unsafe spot.” A committee of senior officers will conduct detailed inquiry.
Nadeem Khan, husband of victim, shared harrowing moment. Family jumped after hearing fire rumor. “Someone said fire broke out,so train stopped. People jumped off,we did too,” he said. While checking on older child on train,his wife and young son were hit by oncoming train.
Urges from railway administration: stay calm,don't leave trains unless necessary. But will lessons be learned…
