Historic Raymond’s Tomb in Hyderabad getting facelift,thanks to ₹14 lakh from Bureau de France. Restoration aims to preserve monument,boost cultural ties with India.
June 17,2026,during review meeting led by A. Vani Prasad,Special Chief Secretary of Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture Department,officials met with French delegation and Telangana reps to discuss project. Restoration to wrap up in two months,with estimates for conservation works ongoing.
Raymond’s Tomb honors Michel Joachim Marie Raymond,French military officer who rose in Hyderabad late 18th century. Served under Nizams,modernizing forces. Left mark on region as British East India Company expanded.
Raymond's mysterious death in 1798 at age 43 led to burial on Malakpet hillock,where he trained troops. 23-foot obelisk marks site known as Raymond’s Tomb.
Restoration will improve visitor amenities. Information boards and basic facilities planned to enhance tourist experience. Ceremony set for July 28,with French delegation and government departments coordinating,said Arjun Rao Kuthadi,Director of Heritage,Telangana .
