The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi (BGUS) has set the stage for the ‘47th Samuhik Ganesh Utsav,’ which will kick off on September 14 with the installation of Ganesh idols. This vibrant festival will culminate on September 25,coinciding with ‘Anantha Chaturdashi,’ a significant day for devotees as they immerse the idols in water.
This year’s celebrations hold special significance as BGUS commemorates several milestones. Among them are the 150th anniversary of the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram,’ the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Ramdas, a revered figure in the Bhakti movement,and the 100th birth anniversary of Ashok Singhal, the former president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). These events were highlighted by BGUS president G . Raghava Reddy and secretary Ravinuthala Shashidhar during a press conference on Thursday .
The festival office was inaugurated at Baheti Bhavan in Siddiam Bazaar, marking the beginning of preparations for the upcoming festivities. This year also coincides with the 170th birth anniversary of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, key figure credited with popularizing public celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi in India .
In a bid to promote local industries, BGUS has urged pandal organizers and devotees to embrace ‘Swadeshi’ products throughout festival . This initiative aims to bolster indigenous craftsmanship and support local artisans, reflecting a growing trend towards self-reliance in the community.
