Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) kicked off footpath clearance drive again Saturday,targeting encroachments citywide. Supreme Court had affirmed public's right to walk freely on footpaths .

Working with Traffic and Law & Order Police,GHMC officials laid out a plan,assigning road stretches in each zone for clearance. GHMC Commissioner,Chief City Planner,Zonal Commissioners led operation,with Deputy Commissioners and Town Planning staff joining in .

Shamshabad Circle saw removal of 15 permanent,56 temporary structures from RGIA Police Station to Mission Compound (Firangi Nala). In Moosarambagh,16 permanent,33 temporary encroachments cleared. Golconda Circle reported 28 permanent,59 temporary encroachments removed,especially along routes connecting Golconda Ward Office,Langar House Cross Road,Bapu Ghat. Meanwhile,Khairatabad Circle cleared 21 temporary encroachments from Basheerbagh Flyover area . Amberpet Circle saw 20 permanent,35 temporary structures removed between Savarkar Statue,Kachiguda Railway Station,YMCA.

Overall,drive cleared 283 encroachments,79 permanent,204 temporary. Since special drives began April 4,2026,GHMC removed total of 2,620 encroachments. Corporation plans to keep these operations going citywide…but how long will it take to clear them all?
