Over 22 lakh candidates are set to retake the NEET (UG) 2026 examination on June 21,2026, following cancellation of previous test due to allegations of a paper leak. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has implemented stringent security measures across 5,440 centres in India and 14 international locations to ensure a smooth and fair testing environment.
In preparation for the exam, the NTA has installed 1,38,560 CCTV cameras in over 95,000 examination rooms, with feeds monitored at various administrative levels. To combat potential electronic malpractice,51,311 jammers have been deployed, with 17,054 provided by ECIL and 34,257 by BEL. A nationwide mock drill conducted on June 20 verified the functionality of these systems, including jammers and CCTV setups.
Each examination room will have two invigilators, supported by more than 10 additional staff members at every centre. The NTA has mobilized 38,795 personnel for candidate frisking and 48,448 for biometric verification. A centre systems officer will oversee each of 5,440 centres, ensuring that any technical issues are addressed promptly .
Approximately 6,700 observers will be present at the examination centres, supplemented by over 100 virtual observers monitoring live CCTV footage . NTA has also incorporated AI tools to analyze footage for any anomalies, creating a multi-layered monitoring system to enhance security.
State and district administrations have been extensively involved in the re-test preparations, with paramilitary forces and Indian Air Force contributing to security efforts. On average,40 to 50 security personnel will be stationed at each centre . Additionally, bank officials will oversee confidential examination materials at around 1,500 branches, while the Department of Posts will manage the collection of OMR sheets from approximately 700 centres nationwide.
To support candidates on exam day, the NTA has coordinated with state governments to provide drinking water and ORS at the centres. Shaded waiting areas have been arranged for parents accompanying candidates, and ambulances will be on standby . Each examination room will feature a wall clock, extra rough-work pages, and an extended examination window to accommodate entry formalities.
The NEET-UG re-exam will be conducted in English and 12 Indian languages. In light of the previous incident, the NTA is actively monitoring social media to counteract any rumors or fraudulent claims related to paper leaks. Candidates and their families are urged to rely solely on official NTA communications and to ignore unverified messages.
The NTA has called on all involved parties to support candidates and foster a calm and secure examination atmosphere. This collaborative effort aims to alleviate stress on exam day, allowing candidates to focus on their performance.
