The automobile retail market in Gujarat experienced a significant boost in May 2026, with total vehicle sales surpassing 158,000 units. This figure represents an 18.16% increase compared to the same month last year, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
Leading surge, two-wheeler sales accounted for a substantial portion of the market, rising 16.04% year-on-year to exceed 109,000 units, up from 93,992 units in May 2025. The demand for two-wheelers continues to dominate the state's vehicle sales landscape.
Among various vehicle categories, the three-wheeler segment showcased the highest growth rate, with sales soaring 27.11% to reach 7,515 units. This increase is attributed to heightened demand for last-mile transportation and small-scale cargo services.
Passenger vehicles also saw remarkable growth, with sales climbing 25.81% from 25,450 units to 32,018 units. The surge was fueled by strong consumer interest and the introduction of new models, particularly in the SUV and compact car segments.
Commercial vehicles reported a 12.86% increase, totaling 6,626 units sold, reflecting ongoing economic activity and freight movement throughout the region. Additionally, tractor sales rose by 20.57%,reaching 2,198 units, indicating a positive trend in the agricultural sector.
However, not all categories fared well. Sales of wheeled construction equipment fell by 8.81%,dropping to 745 units, likely due to delays in certain infrastructure projects.
This growth in Gujarat aligns with a national trend, where vehicle retail sales across India reached a record high of 2.53 million units in May, marking a 9.55% year-on-year increase. This surge occurred despite challenges such as heatwaves, rising fuel prices, and global geopolitical tensions.
