Haldiram's, a big name in Indian food, has hit London. Crowds are turning up in droves to taste hits like chole bhature, pani puri, papdi chaat, and pav bhaji.
But prices are raising eyebrows. Many are comparing them to Indian outlets. UK menu is pricier — £6.50 for pani puri,£11.50 for chole bhature. Bombay Vada Pao and pav bhaji also cost more than in India.
It's part of a wider trend in UK dining where eating out comes with a higher tag . Dal makhani with rice is £10.50, garlic naan £5 . Drinks like sweet lassi and masala chaas are £6 and £5,respectively, with coffee options too.
The London menu is different from the Indian one . While Delhi has over 80 dishes, London offers about 40, focusing on North Indian street food. Aimed at both Indian expats and those new to Indian cuisine.
Presentation stands out. Each dish comes with detailed descriptions, like pani puri as "crisp hollow puffs filled with potatoes and herb-infused spicy or sweet water," giving diners a vivid picture.
New items like Paneer Tikka Wrap and Tandoori Soya Chaap Wrap are on menu, leaving out South Indian dishes, Chinese food, and desserts to focus on key items that hit home with locals.
Despite the buzz, opening day wasn't smooth. Haldiram's went online to thank customers for their patience amid chaos. Fire alarms went off, billing system failed, leading to longer waits.
“Opening day was everything we dreamed of and a lot more than we expected,” Haldiram's said online. “The response was overwhelming, but so were the challenges.”
Though the start was rocky, Haldiram's thanked visitors for their support. They're learning from day one and promise to improve operations.
“Every challenge has been a lesson,” the company said. “Since Day 1,we've been working behind the scenes to improve our systems, strengthen our operations, and make every visit smoother than the last.”
As Haldiram's London settles in,they're aiming to fine-tune service and menu, hoping to deliver a memorable dining experience. Traditional Indian flavors with a modern twist could draw wide crowd, making it a notable spot in London's food scene…
