The Jharkhand government is set to launch helicopter service connecting revered religious sites of Deoghar and Basukinath starting August 4, 2026. This initiative aims to facilitate easier access for pilgrims during Shravani Mela, enhancing religious tourism in the region.
In a press release from Dumka district administration, it was confirmed that the service will be operated by the Jharkhand Flying Institute (JFI). helicopter rides will be available to the general public at commercial rates,allowing devotees to enjoy aerial views of both sacred locations.
N. Rathore, an official from the Jharkhand aviation department, stated that service is being introduced on initiative of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The helicopter, which seats four passengers plus a pilot,will operate daily from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. All necessary safety measures are being implemented to ensure smooth operations.
Local businesses and members of Basukinath Panda Society have expressed enthusiasm for the new service . Manoj Kumar Ghosh, secretary of the Dumka Chamber of Commerce,praised the government's effort,noting that improved transportation would attract more visitors. He emphasized the need for this service to be available year-round, not just during the festival season .
Members of the Panda Society also welcomed the development. Rupesh Jha,a representative, highlighted that helicopter service would provide a delightful experience for those with the financial means to afford it,further promoting tourism in the area.
The pricing for the helicopter rides has been set as follows: a flight for aerial views of Deoghar and Basukinath will cost ₹2,850 for a duration of 7 to 10 minutes. For a flight from Deoghar to Trikoot Hill,the fare is ₹3,750 for 10 to 15 minutes. A one-way trip from Deoghar to Basukinath will be priced at ₹4,500.
