26-year-old woman from Ambernath reportedly took her own life Tuesday,leading to arrest of her husband and two in-laws on charges tied to dowry harassment,abetment of suicide. deceased, Vishakha Tilkar, was found dead in her Shivaji Nagar home.
Authorities detained her husband, Dr . Nitin Tilkar,along with mother-in-law Chhaya Tilkar, and brother-in-law after complaint by Vishakha's family . Couple had arranged marriage on April 30,her family insists no dowry given then.
Investigations unearthed troubling details about Tilkar family’s behavior post-marriage. Allegedly,demanded 50 grams of gold from Vishakha’s parents soon after wedding. Reports say Dr. Tilkar monitored Vishakha closely,even installed CCTV cameras in home,restricted her interactions with neighbors .
Sunday,Vishakha spoke with nearby resident,which reportedly led to violent confrontation with husband and in-laws. Afterward,she contacted her parents in Pune,informing them of abuse. They planned visit to Ambernath to confront in-laws,but Vishakha died before they arrived.
Ramesh Patil,Senior Police Inspector at Shivaji Nagar Police Station,confirmed arrests,stating, “The accused family harassed deceased physically,mentally because they didn't receive gifts during wedding. Demanded 50 grams of gold as dowry,which her father couldn't provide.” Police charged suspects under Dowry Prohibition Act,abetment to suicide.
