Indian Railways logged solid growth in freight,passenger services for June 2026,Union Ministry of Railways said. Freight saw uptick,loading 142.21 million tonnes,up from 136.71 million tonnes in June 2025—a 4% rise. This meant extra revenue of about ₹430 crore,3% more than last year.
Some key commodities drove this trend . Fertilizer loading jumped 19.1%,while 'Balance & Other Goods' rose 17.3%. Iron ore,domestic coal also climbed 9.4%,4.9%,respectively. Total coal loading up 3.6%; clinker shipments rose 7.2%. First quarter FY2026-27,freight loading hit 419.08 million tonnes,up from 413.05 million tonnes same time last year .
To meet thermal power stations' demand during long summer,Railways boosted domestic coal transport. Coal supplies to power plants rose 7% in June 2026,compared to June 2025.
Passenger services grew too,with Railways moving 63.81 crore passengers in June 2026,up from 62.37 crore same month last year. Non-suburban travel,covering short,long trips,saw 3.9% rise,from 28.90 crore to 30.04 crore. Suburban posted modest 0.9% growth,passengers up from 33.46 crore to 33.77 crore.
Services have expanded fast. Number of Vande Bharat trains now at 164,including new sleeper service Howrah to Kamakhya, Guwahati. And Amrit Bharat trains hit 72,with four new added in June 2026. What's next for this growth trajectory…
