Kozhikode police cracking down hard on drug crimes,arresting 586 since June 1 under Operation Toofan. District Police Chief A.P. Shoukath Ali said 573 narcotics cases registered during this month-long push.
Officers seized 6 kilograms of cannabis,317 grams of MDMA. Four cases involved commercial quantities,while 53 were smaller amounts. Most arrests under Section 27 of NDPS Act — 505 cases filed there.
Mr. Ali pointed to abandoned Mananchira Comtrust Handloom Weaving Factory as trouble spot for illegal activity. Police boosting surveillance,acting to curb it. Drugs top priority,but road safety now on radar too.
After Toofan's success,authorities plan crackdown on speeding buses. Mr. Ali called on community to help tackle reckless driving. Complaints piling up . Balancing drugs and traffic safety...a broader mission for Kozhikode. Where will it lead?
