S . Jaishankar,India's External Affairs Minister,met South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun Wednesday in Seoul. They talked about boosting bilateral cooperation amid shifting global dynamics. It's part two of Jaishankar's foreign tour after Mongolia .
Their talks lasted three hours,including lunch . Focus: follow-up actions in trade,investment,finance. These were key points during South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's visit to India in April. Jaishankar sounded upbeat about India-South Korea ties,stating,“The potential of our relationship remains to be realised,and from our side,there is a full commitment that we would strive to do that.”
Jaishankar praised Cho's dedication to strengthening ties. He later posted on X about their wide-ranging discussions,from political cooperation to shipbuilding,technology,clean energy,cultural exchanges. Also startups,fintech and multilateral engagements were on table .
Cho called President Lee's visit turning point,bringing Korea-India relations to new heights. He wants swift progress in agreed areas,emphasizing building on April's achievements. “We welcome swift follow-up progress in areas such as trade,investment and finance,” he said after the meeting.
During "Korea Week" in India,Cho pointed out how this aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aim to tackle challenges faced by Korean businesses in India. Korea plans a similar dialogue soon for Indian companies.
The ministers also discussed rapidly evolving global situations,agreeing on need for close communication to tackle economic impacts from West Asia developments. This part of their talk shows shared interest in handling complex international challenges.
