A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after being convicted of abducting and repeatedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Kalaburagi. Additional District and Sessions (Special POCSO) Court FTSC-1 delivered the verdict against Nandappa, a resident of Rustampur village in Chincholi taluk, following a thorough examination of the evidence presented during the trial.

Justice S.L. Chavan announced sentence, which included a fine of ₹25,000 under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Should Nandappa fail to pay fine, he faces an additional six months of simple imprisonment . The court also imposed another fine of ₹25,000 under Section 332(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with a potential three-month sentence for non-payment.

The case unfolded when the victim's parents, who worked as laborers at a polishing center in Kallur Road village, reported the incidents to the authorities. Nandappa had befriended the girl,luring her with promises of love and marriage. On February 14, 2025, he abducted her from her home after previously assaulting her multiple times, fully aware of her age .

The investigation was led by PSI Madivalappa of the Miriyan Police Station, with Circle Inspector Kapiladev overseeing the chargesheet. Police personnel Lakshmikanth and Parashuram played key roles in presenting witnesses effectively in court. Special Public Prosecutor Shanthaveera B. Thuppad argued the case on behalf of the State,successfully establishing the accused's guilt through compelling testimonial and documentary evidence.

In addition to the prison sentence,the court ordered the Legal Services Authority to compensate the victim with ₹5,00,000 within one month of the judgment, aiming to provide some measure of support following the traumatic events she endured.
