Karnataka government is rolling out a strict system to stop financial mismanagement in temples . Comes after fund leakage incidents at Ayodhya Ram temple. Deputy Chief Minister G . Parameshwara announced this in Belagavi on Wednesday, stressing need for tighter oversight of temple finances.
Parameshwara, who's in charge of Revenue and Endowments, said new system will use technology to cut human error and boost transparency. Regular inspections by senior officials like Tahsildars, Deputy Commissioners will be required to keep eye on temple activities and check financial records .
“I think Ayodhya is warning bell for all of us. We need to protect the assets and earnings of such temples,”he remarked, highlighting urgency of the move. Deputy Chief Minister promised a thorough set of procedures to prevent any misconduct in temple operations.
Besides financial oversight,Parameshwara told senior revenue officials and Deputy Commissioners in all districts to tackle encroachments on temple properties. He emphasized clearing these encroachments and updating land records through surveys and boundary fixations.
The protection plan covers all types of temples—A, B,and C. Temples in category A can use their own funds for development projects. Managed by their own authorities, they must draft master plans for state approval, allowing investment in public-use infrastructure like lodging.
Smaller temples in B and C categories need to submit funding proposals to state for any development projects. This structured method aims to improve management and use of temple funds while protecting assets for future generations. How well it works…
