Kasturba Hospital in Manipal just pulled off a big one — Karnataka's trickiest robotic intrathoracic tracheal cancer surgery on a 36-year-old man . Hospital keeps pushing boundaries in robotic oncology.
Patient struggled to breathe. Doctors found tumor in lower trachea. Partial removal happened elsewhere, but full excision of remaining cancer and affected trachea needed .
Dr. Naveena Kumar A . N. led surgical oncology team through this complex robotic surgery, with crucial help from anesthesia team. They removed tumor-affected trachea above where windpipe splits. Keeping oxygen flowing and ventilation tube in place was critical.
Robotic approach meant no large chest cuts. Less pain, quicker recovery. Patient left hospital four days later.
Minimal invasion, less blood loss, faster return to life. Team included Dr. Nawaz Usman,Dr. Akhil Palod, Dr. Ananth Balakrishnan, and Dr. Preethi from Surgical Oncology, plus Professor Anitha N. and Dr . Shreya from Anesthesia.
Dr. Naveena Kumar emphasized surgery's complexity: "One of most technically demanding robotic cancer surgeries, needing precise coordination to keep patient's airway and oxygenation stable." Minimally invasive, avoided big cuts.
Dr. Sudhakar Kantipudi,COO of Teaching Hospitals at MAHE, praised team's success. Proud moment for hospital. He reaffirmed commitment to advanced tech, aiming to make hospital a go-to for complex robotic cancer surgeries.
Kasturba Hospital shows its dedication to surgical innovation for regional patients . Part of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), known for academic and research excellence. MAHE got Institution of Eminence status in 2020, offers over 400 specializations.
With this surgery, hospital not only showed off surgical skills but also strengthened mission to enhance patient care through innovation…
