Authorities in Kollegal arrested two men Wednesday afternoon for trying to illegally sell monitor lizard. Arrests happened near Cauvery river banks at Sattegala hand post in Chamarajanagar district’s Kollegal taluk.

Kollegal CID Forest Mobile Squad got an intelligence tip . By 3:15 p.m.,officers were at riverbank,found two individuals attempting to sell live monitor lizard. Animal was in iron cage,wrapped in wire mesh.

Squad immediately took the two men into custody . They were identified as Sardar alias Mukhtar Pasha, 45, and Rafi,44,both from Hunsur. Officials seized lizard,registered case against the pair.

Raid led by Police Sub-Inspector Avinash . He was backed by squad members Basavaraj, Swamy,Jameel, Latha, Ramachandra, Prabhakar,another Basavaraj. Operation had guidance from CID Forest Unit Inspector General of Police,Bengaluru, and Superintendent of Police of Madikeri CID Forest Unit.
