Six innovative products from sweet potatoes grown by tribal women in Attappady just hit market,courtesy Kudumbashree mission . This move,part of ‘Punarjeevana Madhuram’ project,aims to boost agriculture and push women-led businesses.
New offerings include sweet potato kulfi, gummies,chips,three kinds of flour,a health mix, and soup. About 12 technologies from ICAR-CTCRI make this possible. Products will reach local and international consumers K-INAM.
Started in 2024, Punarjeevana focuses on sustainable livelihoods, better nutrition, and sweet potato value chains among tribal communities and women entrepreneurs in Attappady . Over 100 acres now grow various sweet potato types, supporting around 80 women farmers.
Farmers get high-yield hybrid planting materials and essential inputs. Program stresses modern training, skill development to improve farming. Instead of raw sales,Kudumbashree-Technology Advancement Programme (K-TAP) adds value using advanced tech.
At launch, K.M . Shaji,Minister for Local Self-Government, praised Kudumbashree products' global competitiveness, noting they're made by ordinary women. He said the initiative shifts from poverty relief to prosperity. “Punarjeevana Madhuram will help achieve that aim,” he stated .
During event, V. Vigneshwari, Kudumbashree’s executive director, gave Minister K-INAM branded products. Gathering included G. Byju of ICAR-CTCRI,H. Dineshan, Land Revenue Commissioner,M.S.
