WalletHub's latest analysis paints a dim picture for South Texas staycations. Laredo, Brownsville, and Corpus Christi all scored low among 182 U.S. metro areas. Laredo hit No. 177 — sixth-worst nationwide for local vacations.

Study looked at recreation,dining,entertainment,and what they call "rest and relaxation." Laredo tanked in food and entertainment, scoring 173 of 182. Rest and relaxation wasn't much better at 159. Dead last in public golf courses per capita.

Brownsville wasn't far behind at No. 133. Corpus Christi, once dubbed one of the most boring cities in 2025,landed at No. 115. WalletHub analysts pulled data from U.S. Census Bureau, TripAdvisor,checking things like movie ticket prices and summer weather.

Orlando, Florida,shines as staycation paradise. Not just Disney. Tons of other attractions. Adam McCann from WalletHub says Orlando has amusement parks, water parks,more… That's why it ranks high.

But not all Texas cities fared poorly . San Antonio,Austin,Houston — all in top half for staycations. San Antonio at No. 55,Austin No. 28, Houston No. 26. Austin,San Antonio scored high in food,entertainment . Rest and relaxation? Not so much.

With essentials like groceries, gas rising,families may rethink vacation plans. WalletHub's findings could sway some to stick closer to home. Not all cities offer same staycation perks…
