Horticulture Expansion in Markapuram
To turn Markapuram District into horticultural force, local officials plan to plant crops over 63,000 hectares in next three years . District Collector M. Vijaya Sunitha said phase one targets 16,000 hectares for orchards.
Sunitha urged farmers to mix horticulture with their usual crops. She stressed using smart management and top-quality seeds for best results. And she advised sticking to guidelines from Agriculture Department officials.
El Niño looms large this year. Collector warned farmers to use resources on ‘AP AIMS’ app. About 115,000 farmers registered on it~provides key advice. Sunitha assured them government will offer full support for those willing to upgrade their farming methods.
This is part of wider strategy to make Rayalaseema and Prakasam-Markapuram districts global horticulture hubs. Government wants to boost productivity and sustainability…but challenges remain .
