Maruti Suzuki India Limited is ramping up its renewable energy commitment with a new biogas plant in Sonepat district and an expansion of its Manesar facility. The automaker plans to invest about ₹150 crore in these projects,announced on World Environment Day .
New biogas plant at Kharkhoda will have 10 tonnes per day (TPD) capacity, set for fiscal year 2026-27. Once up and running, it should cut carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 9,490 tonnes annually,meeting about 20% of the facility's gas needs,company officials said.
Maruti Suzuki also boosting Manesar plant capacity from 0.2 TPD to 0.7 TPD. This expansion expected to yield around 3.6 lakh standard cubic metres of biogas yearly,slashing CO₂ emissions by about 664 tonnes . Manesar uses food waste,Napier grass,paddy straw, and can add cattle dung to increase output.
Biogas is produced organic waste into energy . It's used for heating in paint shop and canteen services at plant.
