P. Narayana,the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development in Andhra Pradesh, conducted inspection of infrastructure projects in Amaravati on Saturday. His focus was on the construction of bridges across the Kondaveeti Vagu and Palavagu rivers, part of broader efforts to enhance flood management in the region .

During visit,Narayana reported that the construction of 69 bridges is underway,emphasizing their importance for effective drainage during upcoming monsoon season. “We are constructing 69 bridges across Kondaveeti Vagu and Palavagu. Efforts are being made to ensure that rainwater flows without obstruction and that no area in Amaravati experiences water stagnation during rainy season,” he stated.

The Minister also addressed recent criticisms from leaders of the YSR Congress Party regarding costs associated with new Central Government offices in Amaravati . He defended the expenditures,which include construction cost of ₹3,945 per square foot for the government residential complex. In comparison,the HappyNest housing project is being developed at ₹3,393 per square foot,while residential quarters for gazetted officers are estimated at ₹3,684 per square foot.

Narayana pointed out that many of the planned buildings in Amaravati are designed to be iconic,which naturally leads to higher construction costs. He referenced the significant cost increases seen in projects like Parliament building and the Telangana Secretariat, noting that expenses often rise from the initial tender stage to completion.

In response to the allegations from the YSR Congress Party,Narayana claimed they were misleading and intended to undermine public confidence in the ongoing projects. He asserted that such misinformation would ultimately diminish the party's political standing. Accompanying officials provided updates on the status of various infrastructure and drainage initiatives throughout the capital city.
