India and Nepal push forward on cross-border railway discussions, zeroing in on Janakpur-Ayodhya train services . Meetings were held in Kathmandu on June 11 and 12 during the 10th Project Steering Committee and 8th Joint Working Group sessions.
Top of agenda: setting up operating procedures for Janakpur-Ayodhya passenger trains. Important route. Janakpur,220 km southeast of Kathmandu, tied to Sita, wife of Lord Ram. This line will help many devotees traveling between Janakpur and Ayodhya, roughly 500 km west.
Beyond Janakpur-Ayodhya, talks covered Final Location Survey report for Raxaul-Kathmandu railway link. They also discussed progress on Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas and Jogbani-Biratnagar lines, built with Indian support. Technical help for East-West Railway Link was also on table, aiming to connect Nepal's southern Terai districts.
These efforts show both nations' drive to boost railway infrastructure and deepen ties in transport. But will it all come together as planned…?
