Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has picked Virat Kohli as toughest batter he's ever faced, praising the Indian star's skill and clutch performances . Amir's words follow Kohli's stellar track record against Pakistan,where he's consistently dominated across formats.
From 2009 to 2025,Kohli has racked up over 1,270 runs against Pakistan, with average over 63.50,including four centuries. His T20 International stats are even more impressive,averaging above 70 with nearly 500 runs against Pakistan. Kohli shines in T20 World Cups too,with over 300 runs and multiple Player-of-the-Match awards,including an unbeaten 82 at Melbourne in 2022.
In ODIs,Kohli's numbers are striking. He has 778 runs in 17 innings against Pakistan,averaging close to 60, with four centuries and two fifties . Amir has faced Kohli many times, managing to dismiss him just once, in 2017 Champions Trophy final.
“For this generation,I've said it many times,Virat Kohli is the toughest batter I have bowled to. When you look at his consistency, the way he controls his game, and how he finishes matches,there is simply no match for him in modern cricket,” Amir stated during an interview with Wisden.
Amir also talked about other cricket legends. He said former Aussies Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson were tough opponents early in his career. “Among former players,Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson were extremely difficult to bowl to. But if we talk about current players,Virat Kohli stands at the top without a shadow of a doubt,” he added .
