After a tragic drowning that took five lives,including four women from same family,government moves to boost safety at Muthathi tourist spot in Malavalli taluk. Water Resources Minister Ramalinga Reddy visited Monday to check the scene and talk measures with senior officials.

Reddy stressed need for strong safety protocols to tackle frequent drownings,which he said happen five to six times a year. Plans are underway for a safe bathing channel,inspired by Rishikesh and Haridwar,to offer a secure space for devotees and tourists in Cauvery river.

The Minister ordered quick prep of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this bathing channel. He also pointed out need for public toilets to better visitor facilities. About 20 CCTV cameras will be put up along riverbank and key areas to keep watch.

To tighten safety,eight marshals will monitor tourist flow,and a police outpost will be set up nearby. Reddy also talked about upgrading warning and info signs around place.
