Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has tapped N. Jayan as new head of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) and Joji J. Chaman to lead ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU),starting July 1. This shuffle is part of a larger restructuring in Thiruvananthapuram facilities, including Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).
N . Jayan isn't new to LPSC. He was associate director before. Big projects under his belt: Cryogenic Stage Project,Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV) at VSSC. He led India's cryogenic propulsion tech development, steering team behind CE20 cryogenic engine for GSLV Mk III (LVM3). Jayan hails from Mannamoola, Thiruvananthapuram. Studied at College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru. His work won him 2025 Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar,top science honor in India. Married to Shobha Jayan, senior accounts officer at Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Two kids: Shwetha and Siddharth.
Joji J. Chaman,now head of IISU,is expert in inertial sensors,system design, precision manufacturing, space robotics. Five patents in inertial sensor tech. Key player in Chandrayaan missions, Mangalyaan Mars mission. Studied at National Institute of Technology, Kozhikode,and BITS Pilani. His wife, Bindu,is professor at Government Homoeopathy College,Thiruvananthapuram. Two sons: Jobin and Jubin.
These changes come after U.P. Rajeev was named director of VSSC. He was associate director for R&D there .
