New Farmers Training and Common Facility Centre (FT-CFC) for Agro Processing opened Thursday in Gurmitkal taluk's Baddepalli community . Federal Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman led ceremony. Facility is part of Union government's push, naming Yadgir as aspirational district. Finance Department, with NABARD, aims to set up farm processing units in all seven districts of Kalyan Karnataka. Purpose? Boost farmers' incomes, create local jobs, improve market access for produce .
At event,Ms. Sitharaman voiced deep disappointment over Yadgir's development . She noted with sadness that region has seen little progress in key areas . This stagnation, she said, has kept district's per-capita income among state's lowest.
Minister pointed out district's glaring gaps in performance indicators. Education, health, civic amenities, clean water access, groundwater levels, female literacy all lag behind other Karnataka districts. These issues keep Yadgir at bottom of state's Human Development Index. Local farmers face tough living conditions, economic struggles. Even though 75% of district's land is for farming, much of Gurmitkal taluk lacks irrigation.
Union government and partners are making a push to lift up Yadgir and similar areas. Through district-specific agro-processing,they hope to change local economic scenes, offer sustainable prosperity paths, tackle systemic issues minister lamented . Big plans, but will they deliver...?
