CAPE CANAVERAL,Fla. — North America,fresh off two coast-to-coast solar spectacles, now watches Europe ready for its turn. On Wednesday,northern U.S . and Canada residents can catch a modest partial solar eclipse as the moon partially covers the sun .
The total eclipse kicks off near the North Pole, sweeping over Greenland, Iceland,then dipping into Spain and a sliver of Portugal. Just couple of minutes of darkness, but it's Europe's first total eclipse since 1999 . Spain will get bigger show next August, also visible in North Africa and Middle East.
North America, meanwhile, remembers Great American Eclipse of 2017, which drew millions from Oregon to South Carolina with over two minutes of totality. Another total eclipse is on deck for 2024,cutting diagonally from Mexico to Newfoundland . But the next coast-to-coast spectacle in the U.S . waits until 2045.
