The National Testing Agency (NTA) has addressed concerns regarding a Nagpur student's examination center assignment for the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21, 2026. agency confirmed that the candidate,Abdullah, had been allocated a center in Abu Dhabi,a decision that sparked complaints from his family about the impracticality of arranging travel on such short notice.
In a statement released on June 20, the NTA clarified that records show Abdullah had selected the Abu Dhabi center himself during the open correction window. Despite this, the agency acknowledged a technical glitch that led to confusion and stated it would issue a revised admit card reflecting a center in Nagpur,as requested by student’s family.
On June 19, just two days before the exam, Abdullah's family submitted informal request to change center . The NTA acted quickly, initiating the change and reaching out to the candidate's father that same evening to facilitate the process . agency emphasized that its web activity records indicated a consistent access pattern, confirming that Abdullah had indeed chosen the Abu Dhabi location on multiple occasions.
“The NTA has observed that on three occasions, the center was changed to Abu Dhabi using the candidate’s credentials,” the agency stated. “Despite that, NTA has accorded to the aspirant’s request and the change of center was actioned.” This response aimed to clarify the situation amid mounting concerns from the family and the public .
Abhishek Singh, the NTA's Director-General,confirmed that the issue had been resolved, assuring that Abdullah would now take the exam in his home city of Nagpur. Singh reiterated the agency's commitment to ensuring that no candidate misses examination due to administrative errors.
In light of the rescheduling of NEET-UG 2026 exam, the NTA reopened the examination-city correction window, which allowed approximately 320,000 candidates to make changes to their center preferences. The agency reported that over 99.5% of students had their preferred examination city allotted, reflecting its “student-first” approach.
As part of the preparations for the upcoming exam,a nationwide mock drill was conducted on June 20 to ensure the smooth and secure administration of the test. The NTA emphasized its focus on transparency and security, aiming to provide seamless experience for all candidates participating in the medical entrance examination .
