On June 5, 2026,a significant discussion featuring Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, will take place at The Hindu Huddle. Abdullah, seasoned politician with decades of experience in complex dynamics of the region, will engage in a dialogue with Dr. Narayan Lakshman, Opinion Editor of The Hindu and Curator of the event. Their session, titled “Beyond the Valley: The role of Kashmir in great power politics,” is set for 10:20 a.m.
Abdullah's participation comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir faces ongoing challenges, particularly following last year’s Pahalgam terror attacks and the military confrontations between India and Pakistan. Having entered politics at young age of 28, Abdullah made history as the youngest member of the Lok Sabha in 1998 . His political journey includes significant roles in Union government, where he served as Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and later for External Affairs. His leadership within the National Conference has solidified his reputation as an outspoken advocate for the rights and needs of Jammu and Kashmir's residents .
Today,Abdullah's leadership is crucial as region grapples with pressing issues, including aspirations of Kashmiri youth, the threat of cross-border terrorism, and the necessity for policies that promote growth while ensuring peace and human rights. His insights during the upcoming session are expected to reflect the complexities of Kashmir's role in broader geopolitical discussions.
