Oval in London preps for 2027 ICC World Test Championship Final,set June 9-13. Event coincides with Test cricket's 150th anniversary. Adds prestige. Best two teams from past two years will face off .
This is Oval's second time hosting. First was 2021 when Australia beat India in packed stadium. ECB secured rights to next three finals at 2025 ICC Annual Conference, covering 2027,2029, and 2031.
Previous WTC Finals spread across England . Lord’s in 2025 saw South Africa beat Australia . New Zealand claimed first title in 2021,defeating India in Southampton. Australia triumphed at Oval in 2023.
Neil Snowball, ECB's Managing Director for Competitions and Major Events, expressed pride in hosting. “We’re thrilled to host next three ICC World Test Championship Finals. The Oval will again be stage next year,” he said. Snowball praised 2023 final's success with fans and broadcasters. Expects 2027 to be even better.
“Great chance for fans here and worldwide to see top two Test teams from past two years face off,” he added.
The 2027 final celebrates cricket and marks historic milestone, aligning with Test cricket's 150 years. Gaurav Saxena,ICC General Manager for Events & Operations, highlighted Oval's historical significance. “The ICC World Test Championship Final is a key date in global cricket,showcasing top two Test teams after two years of excellence,” he said.
Saxena noted strong ICC-ECB partnership, evident from successful ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. “Oval's selection for 2027 final shows our strong partnership with ECB,” he stated.
Excitement builds for this high-stakes match. Australia leads WTC rankings with 87.50 points. South Africa follows as defending champs with 75 points. New Zealand,Bangladesh,India rank third,fourth,and fifth . Sri Lanka,England,West Indies,and Pakistan fill out the rest.
