Recent strike on oil tanker in Gulf of Oman killed three Indian sailors, ratcheting up tensions between US and India. Raises big questions for future of Quad — informal alliance of US,Japan, Australia, India aiming to curb China's hold on critical minerals. But shared worries over China might still pull bloc together.
Geoffrey Pyatt, assistant secretary of state for energy resources, stressed all Quad nations are committed to tackling supply chain vulnerabilities. “All of the governments are committed to this,” he said. Discord between US,India could slow things down though. Rick Rossow from Centre for Strategic and International Studies says members still see urgent need to diversify.
But Quad must deal with its own internal issues. Tensions among members could bog down efforts. Yet fear of China’s dominance might keep them glued to critical minerals strategy. As geopolitical shifts unfold, can Quad adapt fast enough to counter Beijing's moves…?
