U.S. government announced plans for sustainment support services and related equipment for India's Apache helicopters and M777A2 Ultra-Light Howitzers . Total estimated cost: $482.2 million. Notification came from Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) and hit Federal Register on June 17.
U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor stressed growing defense ties, saying on X the partnership is "GROWING." He pointed to a $230 million deal for M777A2 howitzers' sustainment package nearing completion. Gor's comments reflect deeper military collaboration with India.
Department of State had told Congress on May 18 about potential sales of support services for Apache helicopters and M777A2 howitzers. India has integrated M777A2 Ultra-Light Howitzers into its artillery, especially useful for mountainous operations. Indian Army also uses AH-64E Apache attack helicopters,known for advanced combat prowess.
India asked for long-term support for its M777A2 howitzers. Package includes spare parts,repair services,training, technical assistance, logistics support. Cost: about $230 million. Another notification detailed India's request for AH-64E Apache support services,covering U.S. government and contractor engineering,technical and logistics support, technical data, personnel training. Estimated Apache support cost: $198.2 million.
Main contractors for Apache support services will be Boeing Company and Lockheed Martin. BAE Systems in Cumbria, U.K.,will lead M777 howitzer support. Department of Defence said these sales align with U.S . foreign policy and national security goals, strengthening ties with India,a key partner in region.
