The Indian rupee strengthened by 28 paise to reach 96.25 against the U.S. dollar during early trading on Monday, July 27, 2026 . This increase was influenced by a notable drop in crude oil prices and a positive shift in global sentiment following reduced tensions between U.S. and Iran.
Opening at 96.18, the rupee briefly dipped to 96.28 before settling at its higher value . On the previous Friday, the currency had shown resilience, closing 20 paise higher at 96.53 after recovering from lower levels. Forex traders noted that the dollar index, which measures greenback's strength against six major currencies, fell by 0.26% to 101.04,further supporting the rupee's gains.
Brent crude oil,a key global benchmark, traded significantly lower at $92.74 per barrel, down 4.17%. Analysts linked this decline to easing of hostilities in West Asia, where diplomatic efforts have been underway. U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly allowing negotiations to progress,as indicated by U.N. Ambassador Mike Waltz, who mentioned ongoing discussions involving Oman and Iran.
In domestic market, equities also reflected bullish trend . The Sensex surged by 613.80 points, or 0.81%,reaching 76,673.57,while Nifty gained 165.40 points,or 0.70%,to close at 23,931.55. However, foreign institutional investors had a mixed impact, offloading equities worth ₹3,892.77 crore on a net basis on Friday.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has previously indicated that the rupee is undervalued, which may contribute to its fluctuations. Recent inflows into the country, particularly through Foreign Currency Non-Resident (FCNR) deposits, have reached approximately $32 billion, providing additional support for the local currency .
As the rupee continues to navigate these economic currents, its performance will be closely monitored, especially in light of ongoing geopolitical developments and market dynamics .
