KAZAN,June 19 — Kremlin's gaze on Asia isn't new,says Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov. At recent Russia-ASEAN summit,he mentioned the pivot to region has been in motion for long time. "Everything turned in this direction long ago," Ushakov told Vesti news,eyeing shifting geopolitical winds.
Summit in Tatarstan's capital from June 17 to 18 marked 35 years of diplomatic ties between Russia and ASEAN. Ushakov called it productive,noting discussion quality. "The summit was good; discussions were interesting,useful, and substantive," he said. And he mentioned positive outcomes from bilateral meetings — seen as beneficial for all involved.
The ASEAN bloc has 11 members: Brunei,East Timor,Vietnam, Indonesia,Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia,Myanmar,Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. This summit marks a milestone in deepening ties between Russia and Southeast Asia,region increasingly central in global affairs…
