Overwhelming demand has led to 70 more screenings of Chinese film Dear You in Singapore, from July 3 to 12. Presented in its original Teochew-language,the film captivated audiences,causing rapid sellouts of earlier showings .
Distributors Clover Films and Golden Village (GV) announced new screenings on July 1, just after 40 extra showings sold out within three hours of ticket release . Expanded screenings will run across nine cinema locations,including GV Bugis+,GV Cineleisure,Shaw Lido, and Shaw JEM.
Beyond commercial screenings, Clover Films and GV plan collaboration with grassroots and community groups for 30 more community screenings. The goal: reach more seniors,promote cultural engagement.
Tickets for new screenings available at noon,Thursday, July 2,through Golden Village and Shaw’s box office counters,plus online platforms. Clover Films managing director Lim Teck called public enthusiasm encouraging,expressing satisfaction with expanding the showcase.
“The enthusiastic response to Teochew-language screenings of Dear You has been truly heartening,” Lim stated. “We are pleased to expand showcase with additional screenings across more cinemas to meet audience demand. We hope the film continues to spark conversations across generations and encourages more people to embrace and preserve our culture.”
Directed and co-written by Lan Hongchun,Dear You delves into themes of migration,sacrifice, and Chinese migrants sending letters back home. It's been hit,grossing over 1.8 billion yuan (around US$265 million) in China .
