Cricketer Shashank Singh, his father Shailesh Singh,a retired IPS officer, and their family driver have been implicated in serious allegations of assault and wrongful confinement by their former cook. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Ratibad Police Station in Bhopal on Monday, following a complaint from Vipendra Singh Tomar,31,who hails from Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh.
Tomar began working for the Singh family on June 25,having been recruited as a cook through mutual acquaintance. He claimed he was promised a monthly salary of ₹15,000,along with free meals and accommodation, plus assistance in finding a government job. However, his experience quickly soured. Within days, he reported a hostile work environment characterized by frequent disputes over the food he prepared.
Allegations of verbal abuse and mental harassment soon followed. Tomar stated that he decided to resign and return home due to the mistreatment. This decision reportedly incited anger from the Singh family, leading to accusations that they assaulted him and confined him against his will. The family's driver, identified as Mishra, is also named in the FIR.
As part of their investigation, police have seized a mobile phone linked to case. Authorities in Ratibad have initiated inquiries into the allegations, although no arrests have been made at this stage. Shashank Singh, who currently plays for the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL),has not publicly addressed the accusations against him and his family.
Tomar's claims have raised significant concerns, and police are expected to delve deeper into the matter as the investigation unfolds.
